Those swinging 1970s

Remember when Barbara Gordon was a congresswoman? And no one knew she was Batgirl, not even Batman or Superman? Well, do you remember that time Batman talked Superman into asking her out on a date?

Bats is definitely trying too hard, there. Of course, it turns out Babs isn't as lonely as her dad and his friend think...

Date with a good-looking lobbyist? That's gotta be an ethics violation of some kind. But she blows off her date with a lobbyist go out with a reporter, to a White House event no less (but during the Nixon administration, so it's not like that was a hot ticket).

The date didn't go well, so I don't think the Superman/Batgirl romance ever progressed beyond this one story. I wonder if they ever got together to laugh about it when they found out each others secret identities?

Story by Elliot S! Maggin, art by Curt Swan and Bob Oksner, from Superman #268, 1973, as reprinted in Best of DC #48, 1984.
